Integrity Is The Integer (the complete entity)

Integrity is something that can never be taken away from you.  It must be surrendered.

We are living in a time and a culture when integrity is sorely lacking in most human beings.  Unfortunately, even in Christendom.  This ought not to be so, Beloved!  If there is “anywhere” that integrity should be most profound, it should be within the Body of Messiah.

Proverbs 11:3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

Let’s unpack this word, and this Scripture, shall we?

The word integrity is Strong’s # 08538, and, as such, is defined as – simply, integrity.

08538 tummah toom-maw'
AV-integrity 5; 5
1) integrity

The Dictionary defines integrity in the following manner:
~noun
1.    adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.
2.    the state of being whole, entire or undiminished; to preserve the integrity of the empire.
3.    a sound, unimpaired, or perfect condition; the integrity of a ship's hull.

The root word for integrity in Hebrew is tamam.  The Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, has this to say about this root word:
As made by men, it is the right one. {Judges 9:16,19} Asaph praised the completeness (tom) or integrity of King David's heart. {Psalm 78:72} tamam is used with the commandments of God meaning to fulfill them. {Joshua 4:10}

Now you can see why David declared in Psalm 101:2 - I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect (Strong's #08537) heart.  David is expressing, in the Hebrew, a heart of integrity!  Where are those today, that express a heart like unto David?

During the Elections here in the USA, I’m sure you heard the word “transparency” many times.  Basically, this is the meaning of integrity, i.e., being completely upright and transparent in every facet of life. Nothing secret; nothing hidden; just displaying (by your life) what is correct and honorable in the eyes of God. Of course, this was not the definition the Elections put on the word, but from God’s perspective, this truly is the significance of the word.  Many times I’ve said that my life is an open book.  That refers to transparency and integrity.  This should be the way we all live, since our life is never hidden from God! God knows our integrity, but sometimes we need to know our own integrity.  He is faithful to show it to us, if it is for our own good.  Let’s reflect on Job as an example:

Job 27:5  God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.

I found it very interesting that Job referred to his integrity as “mine.”  It would seem to me that this is not something that God had gifted him with, nor graced his life with, but something that Job calls “mine.”  It’s something that Job had to cultivate for himself!

According to John Gill’s Expositor, some read this in the following affirmative manner:
"God knows mine integrity"; he knows that my step has not turned out of the way of truth and righteousness; that my heart has not walked after mine eye, in lustful thoughts and desires; and that there is no spoil, nor rapine, nor violence in my hand, that I should deserve such a punishment as to sow, and another eat.

Indeed, God did know Job’s integrity, as He is the One who conveyed it to satan in Job 2:3.

Neither calamities, torments, lies, trials, temptations by the enemy of your soul, nor the burdens of life, can strip integrity from you, Beloved!  You are the only one who can cause detriment to it.  When you tell that “little white lie,” you are tarnishing your integrity.  When you make a statement that you know is untrue, you are further deteriorating your integrity. When you advance unrighteousness in any manner, you are chipping away at your integrity.  After so many times of this kind of weakening, you will awake one day to find yourself being in the category of perverseness, and transgressor, rather than having integrity. (Refer to our opening Scripture.)  You will either be guided by integrity or destroyed by the lack of it!  Selah.

First of all, this is damaging to you in the way you live your life out in front of your fellow man!  Your deportment will be observed by others as “less than honest and open.”  Secondly, it is a poor testimony to our precious Lord. And that poor testimony is the crux of the matter.  Is this the portrait you want to paint for others to equate with the Lord of glory?  You may be the only gospel they will ever “read.”

2 Corinthians 3:2  Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:

I understand that this has not been a “feel good” word for today, but it is expedient for the excellence of the Body of Messiah, and for your own well-being.

Along with David, my prayer for all of us, Dear Reader, follows:
Psalms 26:1  Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.

May God Himself minister this Scripture to you today, and make it a living truth, as you go forth with integrity:
Jude 24  Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
